Robbie Fowler reacts to Everton situation – ‘Fully fledged laughing stock’

Robbie Fowler has offered his verdict on the ongoing takeover of Everton by dubbing the club a “fully fledged laughing stock”.

Farhad Moshiri’s eight-year reign on Merseyside is coming to an end after The Friedkin Group agreed to sell the club ahead of John Textor.
In his Sunday Mirror essay [29 September pg 74-75], Fowler ripped into the Blues owner and delivered a damning evaluation of Moshiri’s tenure at Goodison Park.

He stated, “Everton have been a complete laughing stock in recent years.

“Farhad Moshiri has spent a staggering £750 million trying to awaken a sleeping giant – but he will leave behind a club that appears to be suffering from narcolepsy.”

Everton will be better off without Farhad Moshiri

While the possible contract is not expected to be revealed until 2025 [Giulia Bould], it appears that Everton has finally completed a deal to pass over the reins from Moshiri.

Under Moshiri’s leadership, the Blues have faced three relegation battles in recent years, with a fourth possible this season, and have been fined twice for violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability guidelines.

The Friedkin Group has a successful football track record with Roma, and they have the financial resources and corporate skills to transform the Toffees from a “laughing stock” to a real European Premier League contender.

Everton last competed in the Europa League during the 2017/18 season, and once Dan Friedkin takes over as manager and the club relocates to Bramley-Moore Dock at the conclusion of the season, a return to the European stage will be on everyone’s mind.
The Blues have had a terrific week, with Sean Dyche earning up his first three points of the season in a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park. However, the immediate goal will be to create more breathing room between themselves and the relegation areas, and they must build on the momentum from the confidence-boosting win.

For the time being, the priority must be to secure their Premier League place for another season, after which the real work can begin as Friedkin brings in a new era at Everton that promises to be more fruitful.
