Celtic & Rangers rivals to ‘finalise’ managerial appointment as highly regarded coach on verge of arrival

Celtic & Rangers rivals to ‘finalize’ managerial appointment as highly regarded coach on verge of arrival.

Although it is only the end of September, the Scottish Premiership has already lost two managers this season.

St Johnstone were the first to act, releasing Craig Levien, and Hearts followed suit not long after, with Steven Naismith paying the price for their poor start to the season. However, it appears that one of those sides is close to producing a new successor, and it should be exciting for their followers and Scottish football fans in general.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that St Johnstone hopes to finalize an agreement with Tiernan Lynch, head coach of Larne, by today. According to reports, the Perth side has agreed on compensation with the Northern Irish champions, and Lynch must now decide where his future rests.

Celtic legend Scott Brown was also considered for the role at McDiarmid Park before signing a new contract with Ayr United, while Aberdeen coach and former interim manager Peter Leven was given permission to discuss the position but reportedly chose to stay at Pittodrie.

Lynch’s signing could be a real coup for the Perth Saints, as the 44-year-old has led Larne from Northern Ireland’s second division to back-to-back NIFL Championships, as well as becoming the first Northern Irish side to reach the group/league stages of a UEFA European competition, with Larne currently competing in the Europa Conference League.

Larne has had a good start to the NIFL season, sitting fourth in the table after four victories, two draws, and one loss. They may be six points behind leaders Linfield, but they have two games in hand as they aim for an amazing third top flight title in a succession.

According to The Courier, St Johnstone and Lynch plan to discuss further today. Barring a last-minute change of heart, Lynch is expected to be announced as the team’s new head coach soon.
