Huddersfield Off-Licence Caught Selling Illegal Cigarettes, Alcohol to Children, and Out-of-Date Food
An off-licence in Huddersfield has been caught selling illegal cigarettes, alcohol to underage customers, and out-of-date food, prompting a review of its licence.
Dubai Stores, located on Willow Lane in Hillhouse, is now under scrutiny following an investigation by trading standards officers. Authorities discovered that the shop had been supplying alcohol and tobacco products to minors, a serious breach of licensing laws. In addition, the store was found to be selling illicit cigarettes that did not comply with UK safety regulations.
Officers also uncovered food items being sold past their expiration dates, raising concerns about hygiene and public safety. Local authorities have launched a review of the store’s licence, which could result in strict penalties, including a possible closure.
A spokesperson for the council stated, “Selling alcohol and cigarettes to children is not only illegal but also poses significant health risks. Additionally, selling out-of-date food is a danger to public health. We take these matters seriously and will take appropriate action.”
Residents in the area have expressed their concern, with some calling for stronger enforcement against businesses that violate consumer protection laws. One local resident said, “Shops like this should be closely monitored. It’s shocking that they were selling alcohol and cigarettes to kids.”
The licensing review will determine whether Dubai Stores will face fines, a suspension, or even a complete revocation of its licence. Authorities are urging the public to report any businesses they suspect of selling illegal or unsafe products.
