Hearts loanee earns praise from boss as he scores 'super' goal...

After scoring his first senior goal, a Hearts loanee has impressed his new manager.

During the winter transfer window, Callum Sandilands was one of the young Jambos that left Tynecastle to try his luck in the SPFL.

He scored in the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and remained with Stewart Petrie’s Montrose team in League

One until the end of the season.

Since relocating to Links Park, Sandilands has been a consistent participant. He scored a beautiful dinked finish after bursting through

the middle of the park and going one-on-one with the goalie.

Following a significant milestone in his career, manager Stewart Petrie was thrilled for the young player. “Callum scored a fantastic

goal, it’s a wee break of the ball,” he stated. It’s fantastic that Callum has a goal as well, and it’s his first for us. I was pleased with his

poise at the end.

“The next stage of Callum’s development is to go and take the step in to senior football,” stated Hearts head coach Neil Critchley at the

time of the young player’s transfer. At Montrose, he now has that chance. We hope he can go there, establish himself on the team, and

then come back to Tynecastle later with some momentum and priceless experience.

Petrie told club reporters about the Highland draw, in which Sandilands was a key player: “We wanted a reaction because I thought

last Saturday was as terrible as we’ve been and we spoke about that for a while, for a long time in fact. We succeeded; I thought our

setup and shape in the first half were great. Since Inverness is a good team with some excellent players, we expected them to come out

in the second half.

But in the end, I think we need to improve and go out and stop the ball in the wide area. If we don’t get out, it goes in and you’re

worried about the last ten minutes. I also thought we weathered the start of it, and then it was a wonderful pass for the goal. We played

excellent defense in the final ten minutes of the game, in my opinion. Actually, I believed we had a few opportunities during the break.

“I believed that if you look at the final ten minutes of the second half overall, it appeared that was when we were going to

score in contrast to the opening thirty-five minutes. I had the impression that we were camping a little, but overall, I’m quite pleased

with the reception to last week’s performance, and we’ll definitely be greatly inspired by it. There’s no easy game; we keep saying that

we’re better off than we are at home right now, which is something we need to examine and improve. As we approach the final quarter,

we will be seeking to make use of our large squad.
