BREAKING NEWS; “Just Wasting Your Breath” – Derby County Manager Slams Key Decision.

Derby County manager Paul Warne expressed disappointment as his team lost their undefeated home record against Norwich City in dubious circumstances.

The Rams had won their previous three games at Pride Park without allowing a goal. In striking contrast, their away form has seen them suffer three defeats, therefore they were optimistic that they would get something out of the game against the Canaries.

Norwich undoubtedly had the upper hand in the first half, but the two teams appeared to be even at the interval. However, the visitors scored in extra time thanks to Borja Sainz’s clever finish.

The Derby defenders immediately protested, arguing that the ball had gone out of play as Josh Sargent reached to guide it back into the six yard box. Indeed, replays showed that he made contact beyond the touchline.

On the hour mark, Craig Forsyth tied the game, but it lasted only five minutes until Sainz scored his second goal. A frenzied end occurred as Warne’s team sought for an equalizer. Norwich, however, emerged victorious when Sainz completed his hat trick in the 87th minute. Corey Blackett-Taylor brought one back in extra time, but it was too little, too late.

Following the game, it was apparent where the focus would be. The first goal proved to be the turning moment, and it was, of course, the primary topic of conversation. Rams manager Warne expressed frustration in an interview with Sky Sports.

“Well, I believe I understand what everyone else has observed. I saw it at the time. I felt the way the players reacted was unusual, and I assume everyone who is listening to me has seen it. So that is what it is.

“This is disappointing. It’s the first league goal we’ve allowed at home. I feel bad for the guys. I do not think they deserved it. They literally ran out of petrol.

“They are a wonderful group. I care deeply about them. They’re great to work with, and I think we were unlucky in a handful of occasions today.”

When pushed further, Warne’s rage became clear:

“I like to believe they’d notice it (the authorities). Obviously, we attempted to address it, and you’re simply wasting your time, aren’t you?”It’s easy where I am, maybe, but it seemed like the entire stadium saw it. To be fair, the supporters heard at halftime, and regrettably, we win a corner when we’re 2-1 down. We’re not poor at corners, so they go up and score the third goal, and something similar happens.”

Writer’s perspective

It will be of no comfort to Derby, but an apology from the PGMOL is expected. It was a startling move that cost the home team dearly.Warne is properly upset, especially because the timing of the score affected the entire complexion of the game. Going in at halftime would have allowed the Rams to maintain their form in the second half, but they were forced to alter their whole game plan.

It’s another illustration of the EFL’s officiating standards. It appears to be under continual examination right now. As a result, expect to hear more about VAR in the Championship in the coming days.
