Statement in response to serious bus accident

Statement in response to serious bus accident

We can confirm that Morriston Hospital is treating five casualties who sustained injuries as a result of the bus accident in Swansea this morning.

Two men were admitted to Morriston with serious injuries. One with head injuries and one with chest and facial injuries.

Another three men who suffered less serious fracture injuries were also admitted.

All five are in a stable condition.

A further two patients were treated at Neath Port Talbot Hospital’s Minor Injury Unit and have been discharged.

As soon as we were alerted to the incident we took immediate steps to prepare our services in the event that a large number of casualties could require medical attention as events unfolded. This included setting up our internal Gold Command structure. This has now been stood down.

However, our hospitals continue to be very busy and we’d like to remind people that our Emergency Department at Morriston Hospital is for serious illnesses and injuries. If your condition isn’t serious, please use alternative and appropriate ways of getting the care you need.

This includes self-care, local pharmacies, the online symptom-checker and our 111 service. Our MIU at Neath Port Talbot Hospital is also open every day between 7.30am and 11pm.
