‘Brilliant’ – Bolton Wanderers player singled out by Steven Schumacher after Birmingham City win

Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher has said Chris Forino was ‘brilliant’ against Birmingham City.

Bolton Wanderers defeated the Blues 3-1 at home on Tuesday night, with goals from John McAtee, George Thomason, and Aaron Collins securing the three points.

The Trotters are sat in 7th place in the League One table as they eye a place in the play-offs. They are a point outside the top six behind Huddersfield Town.

Schumacher has hailed Forino after their latest victory and has said, as per a report by The Bolton News: “Chris Forino, I’ll single him out because he was left out of the squad on Saturday at Wrexham because we didn’t need another centre-back. He was disappointed but I said, ‘Look, football’s got a funny way of surprising you so just be ready for when you get your chance’.

“Then Will Forrester phoned up on Sunday morning and said he had a bit of a tight hamstring so we didn’t want to risk him for tonight’s game. Chris, from not even being on the bench, is starting and to play 90 minutes against the best team in the league, the way he did, was brilliant.”

Bolton Wanderers’ Chris Forino hailed

Forino has been sidelined with a hamstring injury recently, so his return is a welcome for Bolton Wanderers.

He provides them another option at the back, and he demonstrated against Birmingham City that he can compete with the best.

The Trotters signed him last summer to improve their defense department, and he has had a rough first season in the treatment room.

However, he returns at an ideal moment as they seek promotion under new manager Schumacher, who has previously worked for Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City.

Prior to joining Bolton Wanderers, Forino played three years for another third-tier club Wycombe Wanderers, where he was an important player.

Forino joined them in 2021 and made 90 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals from the back.

He is a Saint Lucia international who has two caps so far.

What now for Bolton Wanderers?

Bolton Wanderers will be in a confident attitude after defeating Birmingham City, and Forino will want to keep his position in the lineup.

The Trotters return to action this weekend, travelling to Burton Albion.
