Tahith Chong is “a bit sore but fine” after collapsing against Plymouth Argyle, according to Luton Town manager Rob Edwards.

The former Manchester United player was struck in the head on the stroke of halftime and had to be replaced by Jacob Brown; luckily, the 24-year-old was able to walk off the pitch alone after what appeared to be a serious scenario.

Chong remained motionless on the Home Park field for long time after sustaining the hit to his head, but Luton Town supporters will be delighted to hear that he is well.

The Hatters lost 3-1 to Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth side, their fourth defeat of the season, leaving them with only two victories in their first seven games.

Edwards had a hopeful view on Chong’s status following his team’s defeat at Home Park. However, his availability for the next match against Oxford United on Tuesday night is uncertain due to a possible concussion.

According to Edwards, he is healthy and active. So we’ll see how severe it is in terms of concussion. He was a little uncomfortable, but he’s okay.”

Luton informed supporters via X that Tahith was able to walk to the changing room following a stint on the floor during stoppage time in the first half.

While the Hatters fans will be relieved to hear that Chong is okay following his severe injury, they will hope he is not out of action for too long, but with swelling seen on his head as he left the ground, it may be a while before he can return to duty.

After a poor start to the season, losing a vital player like Chong would be disastrous for Edwards, especially because October is expected to be a hectic month in the Championship.

Tahith Chong has become a key player for Luton Town since his 2023 move.

Chong joined the Hatters in the summer of 2023 after their Premier League promotion, and while he couldn’t help them escape relegation last season, he has shown to be an important element of Edwards’ side.

Last season, he scored five goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for the club, notably against Liverpool and Tottenham. This demonstrates why the Kenilworth Road leadership paid £4 million for him, which now appears to be a bargain.

This season, the former Netherlands U21 international has started all eight matches in all categories and scored in the Hatters’ opening day defeat to Burnley.

Given his significance to Luton, it will be reassuring to hear that his injury does not appear to be as serious as initially thought, and they will be hoping he will be available soon as they attempt to regain form and progress up the Championship table.
