Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney now told why Wrexham will not win the League One title

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney should not expect to be lifting the League One title in 2024/25, according to one Wrexham expert.

Since purchasing Wrexham in February 2021, the Hollywood couple has had considerable success.
After 15 years in the National League, Phil Parkinson achieved the Red Dragons’ promotion back to the football league in 2022/23.

Wrexham spent only one year in League Two before securing automatic promotion to the third tier this season.

Now, the Welsh club is looking for its third promotion in a row and is on track to win League One.

Wrexham face Leyton Orient this weekend and are currently top of the division, tied on points with Birmingham City.

However, Opta has forecasted where Wrexham will end in 2024/25, and it is not good news for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as their squad is expected to finish ninth.

Now, a Wrexham specialist has told the Americans why the club would not win League One this season.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney told why Wrexham will not win League One

Wrexham were not anticipated to compete for promotion heading into this season.

However, with only one loss in their last seven games, they are right in the promotion mix.

McElhenney was in attendance when Birmingham City defeated Wrexham 3-1 last week, and they will also be competing for first place this season.

And now, speaking on the Rob. Ryan. Red podcast, The Athletic’s Wrexham reporter Richard Sutcliffe has explained why the club will not win League One, claiming that Birmingham City will take first place.

He stated, “I assumed they would be among the top six. The top one will be gone. I don’t see anyone except Birmingham.

“A buddy of mine was reporting at Rotherham, and the lad who scored Celtic’s third goal absolutely ran that midfield again, and you think he’ll be like a cheat code in League One this season.

“Stansfield up front, Alfie May behind, 20 odd goals combined in the last two seasons. So they’ll be away and gone.

“But second place, it could be one of those where second place is up for grabs.”

Who will challenge Wrexham for second place in League One

Assuming Birmingham win League One, which is a reasonable assumption given they spent £20 million on only one player during the summer, Wrexham still have plenty of fight for second place.

Bolton Wanderers almost missed out on promotion to the Championship in 2023/24, although they have started the season poorly, lying 19th in the table as of the most recent round of matches.

Instead, a number of new candidates are developing to challenge Wrexham for second place.

Barnsley are currently third in the division, three points behind Parkinson’s side, as is Charlton Athletic.

During the 2024 summer transfer window, Lincoln City beat Wrexham to sign Bailey Cadamarteri.

And, while the Sheffield Wednesday loanee is suffering at his new club, Lincoln as a team is flying and will be only two points behind Wrexham if they win their game in hand.
