In Tuesday night’s victory over Coventry City, Burnley owner Alan Pace congratulated Jay Rodriguez on his 300th appearance for the team.

After rising through the ranks at Turf Moor, the 35-year-old played 128 games for his hometown team during his first stint before joining Southampton.

Rodriguez’s success in the Premier League and his play with the Saints earned him an England cap, which thrilled everyone associated with the club.

Following his departure from Southampton, Rodriguez spent a couple years at West Brom before rejoining Burnley in the summer of 2019.

With the victory over the Sky Blues, he also reached 300 for the team, his 172nd in his second spell.

Because of this, Burnley made arrangements for Pace and manager Scott Parker to give Rodriguez a shirt with the number “300” on the back before their game began.

Congratulating Rodriguez on this historic occasion, the owner also wrote a message to the forward on his Instagram story, mentioning the song the fans have for Rodriguez.

Jay Rodriguez is still contributing to Burnley

It would be shocking if this wasn’t Rodriguez’s final season wearing a claret and blue shirt because his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

He continues to contribute significantly to the team, though, and has stepped up in recent games as Parker struggles with an injury issue that has left him lacking in natural strikers.

Rodriguez has started the last two games, which have both been in victories, against Bristol City and Coventry. He also stepped up to score the vital penalty in the 94th minute to defeat Swansea.

Rodriguez may still be useful even if he is not the player he once was because of his clever movement and ability to occupy opponents.

As you might expect, he has a significant impact on the locker room. Parker benefits greatly from having a player who has been there before, and Rodriguez undoubtedly benefits the team’s younger players as well.
