Luis Palma ditched by Celtic ally after ‘opporuntity passes him by’ as £5m transfer price set for successor

The wide player has struggled to make his imprint at Celtic Park this season.

StrugglingFormer Celtic great Emilio Izaguirre has cautioned Luis Palma that he may miss out on a chance at Parkhead.

The Honduras winger spoke of chats with his countryman before making the £3.5 million deal from Aris late in the summer window in 2023. This occurred after Izaguirre had talked him up big time. The two appeared to have a good relationship, and it appears Izaguirre is still pushing for his compatriot to hit the ground running in Glasgow’s east end – but admits things have not gone as planned, conceding “something is missing” if he does not establish a regular starting berth.

The 24-year-old has struggled for consistent playing time this season, making his first start against the Bairns but failing to impress and was replaced after 60 minutes. Supporters have criticised his post-game social media antics. Izaguirre told Deportes TVC about Palma: “It’s incredibly complex because I’ve never done it before. I was a starter when I arrived.

“If you’re a 200 percent professional, you must be a thousand percent professional because your teammates are more professional than you. You must learn to eat and sleep well since people are quite demanding.

“If he is not a starter, something is lacking. They leave nothing out. Cameras are used even during training. Something must be going on because he is not a starter, and they do not forgive anyone. He must concentrate because the opportunity may pass him by, and hopefully it will not.”

Addressing the possibility of a January departure, he continued: “The hardest thing is that there is pressure on the player, and when the word comes out that he is going to be loaned out, it is difficult because mentally he might feel pressurised or he can know that he has to grow up to be a starter. It’s complex.

“I have to support and encourage him, and we have to be there for him because he represents us. He’s in the Champions League, and we’re all hoping to see a Honduran among the Panamanians and Costa Ricans.

Sven Jaecques, CEO of Royal Antwerp, has set a price for Michel-Ange Balikwisha, who may replace Celtic in January. Jaecques disclosed earlier this week that an exit was thwarted by an unexpected injury, and he has now warned clubs what price they must pay to bring in the wide player.

In an interview with HLN, he stated that he is worth €6 million (£5 million) and is under contract until 2026. He is interested in a transfer. I understand that for the time being, it is the player’s decision, so we’ll see what happens. There is nothing on the table right now, but a lot of information is being gathered.”
