Collingwood father-son prospect Tom McGuane is a name to watch on the road to the 2025 AFL Draft, with the Western Jets midfielder kickstarting Zero Hanger’s Craft of the Draft ‘Introducing’ series – previewing some of this season’s leading draft talent.
McGuane enters his draft year off the back of a formidable bottom-age campaign in the Talent League and with local powerhouse Keilor, who his father and Collingwood premiership player Mick coaches.
The crafty and agile midfielder has become known for his stoppage work and ball-winning nous – ranking first overall in the Talent League last year for total disposals (383), recording the most handballs in the competition (187) and also finishing fifth for kicks (196).
“There’s a lot of excitement about what he could become in the long-term,” Craft of the Draft analyst Jonty Ralphsmith said of McGuane.
“He averages 26 disposals and a lot of that is down to just how clean he is around stoppage and how many contested possessions he’s able to win because of how well he reads the ruck’s tap and how clean he is below his knees.”
