‘He is a goalscorer’ – Birmingham City summer recruit praised by Chris Davies

Birmingham City strengthened their drive for promotion from League One on Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory away at Exeter City.

Attacker Jay Stansfield also scored against his old team, and Iwata was able to get himself back on the scoresheet.

Davies has praised his midfield player profusely. We have clearly seen it on both feet, and he maintains it, applies good force, and is accurate, so yeah, he is a goal scorer when he lands on the edge of the box.

“That was great for Tomoki, but the key point is that the positions we all occupied and the team occupied allowed him to come and score. Great from his perspective; another objective.

Birmingham City man hailed

Iwata was signed by Birmingham City this past summer after they were demoted from the Championship.

To increase their alternatives in the middle of the park, the Blues brought him in.

Since then, the four-cap Japan international has adjusted to life in England quite well.

Iwata has scored six goals in 14 appearances across all competitions, five of which were in the league, and he and Paik Seung-ho have established a strong midfield relationship.

He began his career in his own nation by working with Yokohama F. Marinos and Ōita Trinita.

After that, he was initially loaned to Celtic before deciding to make Glasgow his permanent home.

Before being given the opportunity to leave for a new challenge, Iwata played 42 games for the Hoops in all and assisted them in winning the Scottish Premiership.

What now?

He has benefited greatly from Birmingham City’s choice to sign him. Marc Leonord hasn’t been in the starting lineup lately due to his performances.

As they aim to improve, Davies will be hoping he can maintain his form for the remainder of this term.

With one game remaining, the Blues are five points behind the Chairboys at the top of the league, currently sitting in third place behind Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham.

This weekend, they return to play as they travel to Blackpool for the FA Cup.
