After the Aston Villa winger pulled up with what looked to be a serious calf injury during the Canaries’ 1-1 draw away at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, Lewis Dobbin’s loan at Norwich City may be coming to an end.

Only thirty-five minutes into the match, Dobbin was substituted out, and Ante Crnac, who would go on to score the goal, took his place.
Before going into the tunnel for additional treatment, the attacker, who was in a lot of pain, needed to be comforted by his teammates and held by his manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.
“When he was running in that situation, he felt it immediately,” Thorup said to Pink Un. Of course, it’s never good when a player experiences agony like that and feels it immediately. We must thus wait and see. We’ll examine him and most likely have him scanned. I’m not that hopeful, though.
Thorp said, “You never know,” in response to the question of whether Dobbin’s season is finished. I won’t be overly excited or pessimistic about this. We must wait and find out. However, when you have to substitute one of your strikers after twenty-five minutes or such, it’s obviously not good.
Dobbin had a fantastic start to his Norwich career after joining in January, scoring twice in his first 11 games—against Swansea City and Stoke City—so the injury is a huge shame. The 22-year-old became a vital part of Thorp’s attacking three, starting eight of the 11 games.
Dobbin spent the first half of the season at The Hawthorns before his loan was recalled, but he had a far brighter perspective at Carrow Road. In his 18 games for West Bromwich Albion, the former Everton player only accrued 397 minutes and scored zero goals.
For context, Dobbin has played 732 minutes in 11 games for Norwich. It’s been a unique experience that has benefited his development. Everyone concerned will be hoping for good news, but as Thorp stated, things aren’t looking bright at the moment. Another Villa loanee experiences heartache.
This week, a separate Villa player on loan in the Championship received some terrible news, but it was not an injury. Preston North End’s Kaine Kesler-Hayden was named man of the match as the Lancashire team defeated bitter rivals Burnley 3-0 to advance to the FA Cup quarter-finals, but he will be unable to play.
