EFL expert backs Sunderland star for ‘huge future’.

Eliezer Mayenda has the support of former player and EFL commentator Carlton Palmer to succeed at Sunderland.

The 19-year-old scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season on Friday night as Sunderland defeated Sheffield Wednesday on the road in the Championship at Hillsborough. Mayenda has contributed five assists this season as well, bringing his total goal contribution for 2024–25 to 11.

This season, Mayenda has been in and out of head coach Régis Le Bris’ squad. He has alternated between playing on the right wing and in a striking combination with Wilson Isidor, a teammate from Sunderland who has contributed 13 goals so far.

Palmer told Football League World, “Under Le Bris, these young players are thriving; he has granted them a license to play, and they are doing ever so well.” “Sunderland is still vying for automatic promotion after Mayenda scored two incredible goals against Sheffield Wednesday.

Six goals and five assists. Although he has been a bit of a slow burner and hasn’t played much since Wilson Isidor has been so good this season, Mayenda filled in for Sunderland and Le Bris on Friday night. He has amazing talent.

“Le Bris has shown him patience, and it appears to be working. He appears to be mature and has undeniable ability. He was under a lot of pressure when the manager included him in the squad, despite his costly misses against Stoke and Blackburn Rovers, and he has performed admirably.

“He might have a bright career in the game and at Sunderland. He appears to be a very skilled and sensible gamer.
