Celtic’s Carter-Vickers ruled out with foot injury

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that Cameron Carter-Vickers will miss the forthcoming match against St Johnstone.

The 26-year-old United States international defender is dealing with a metatarsal ailment below his big toe, which has bothered him for some time and was uncomfortable during the recent encounter against Bratislava, but he has been playing through it.

Carter-Vickers missed Celtic’s League Cup quarter-final win against Falkirk and will now miss the Scottish Premiership match this Saturday. Looking ahead, his availability in next Tuesday’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund is doubtful.Rodgers voiced concern about the defender’s condition, stating that while the focus is presently on managing his discomfort and recovery, it’s “difficult to tell” if he will be fit for the European tie against Dortmund.

Rodgers informed the journalists, “He’ll miss tomorrow.” He has soreness in his big toe, so we have to monitor that during each game. He’s been playing through it for a little while, but we need to attempt to control it now because he was in discomfort during the Bratislava game. Hopefully, it settles down quickly, and we’ll see where it is on Tuesday.

“It’s tough to say [whether he’ll be ready for Tuesday]. We’ll focus on this game and see where he is on Sunday and Monday.”

Hopefully, it is not too bad, and CCV can play through the pain on Tuesday; he is an important player for Celtic, especially on European evenings.

In his absence, Celtic may turn to Auston Trusty and Stephen Welsh, both of whom started against Falkirk, to fill the defensive void. Rodgers may consider Maik Nawrocki, a substitute in the League Cup encounter, as a replacement for a vital player.
