Watford has a crucial week ahead of them with two home games, a demanding midweek away trip, and nine points up for grabs.
Tomorrow (Saturday) they play Sunderland at Vicarage Road. On Wednesday night they go to Preston. On Saturday they return to WD18 to play Middlesbrough.
This is an even more important seven days because there will be a pause in action following the second international break of the season, giving them the opportunity to potentially rise up the table and add nine points to their total.
“I’ve told the boys about it, but I don’t want to overstate it.
We expect an answer from our most recent league performance when you can amass nine points in seven days, two of which are at home.
“This kind of week has the potential to significantly influence how your season unfolds.”
The visitors have scored within five minutes in Derby’s and Coventry’s last two home league games.
What kind of relationship between players and supporters does Cleverley hope will halt that tendency and ease any initial anxieties that are understandably present?
He retorted, “I always say the players are the catalyst, so we have to give the fans something to react to.”
“Now, it’s wonderful if we can attempt to drive each other, but our goal is to create an atmosphere and act as the catalysts for them to have an amazing day out.
“There may be some nervousness during the first five minutes, but we won’t capitalize on any apprehension—we will craft the story ourselves.”
Sunderland led the table after four straight league victories, and they remain in second place even though they recently lost their first game at Plymouth.
“They were a team I thought were really good on the ball after facing them at the end of last season,” Cleverley said.
They possess energy, are adept at passing and moving, have strong rotations, and exude comfort when in possession.
“I was impressed by their squad, so I’m not shocked by their early success.
“We’ll need to appreciate them and all the important traits I’ve mentioned.
They’ll be a challenging squad to play against if you don’t follow runners, win duels, and do other similar things.
“But we’re playing well and creating lots of opportunities, so I’m sure we’ll cause them just as much trouble.”
