When Sheffield Wednesday takes on West Brom at Hillsborough in the EFL Championship on Saturday, defender Di’Shon Bernard won’t be available.
Following Bernard’s dismissal for a handball in their weekend 2-1 loss at Luton Town, the Owls filed an appeal of the ruling. Although Bernard and those connected to Wednesday think the shot hit his shoulder rather than an illegal portion of his body, they nonetheless stopped it.
After Carlton Morris scored a penalty to tie the score, he added another goal to send them down even further. Wednesday presently holds the final relegation slot in the Championship and is third from the bottom.
After disagreements on both sides about Bernard’s firing, it was determined that the club would file an appeal. However, the FA has kept to their judgment, meaning Bernard will be suspended and won’t play this weekend. It hasn’t had the expected effect.
Wednesday’s manager Danny Rohl told The Star at his pre-game press conference, “We tried.”
“However, things did not work out, which is why he is unavailable this weekend. Although I believe the club spoke with several referees, we are now unable to alter it.
“It’s time to concentrate on the upcoming game; I have no control over anything else. We’ve talked a lot about this over the past few days, but right now we should be concentrating on the next opponent.
In their most recent match, which took place at Hillsborough at the end of April, the Yorkshire team prevailed 3-0. At the time, Wednesday was fighting for their lives, and WBA hadn’t yet guaranteed a play-off position. They defeated West Brom on Wednesday for the first time in ten attempts thanks to the heroics of Anthony Musaba, Ike Ugbo, and Josh Windass.
