Parkhead hero ‘couldn’t be swayed’ into joining Celtic rivals as new manager as talks collapse

Despite interest from a Scottish Premiership club, the Celtic icon has decided to stay put.

St Johnstone’s attempt to hire Scott Brown as manager failed, prompting them to rethink their strategy. The Celtic legend, who is presently in charge of Ayr United, met with the Perth club after emerging as the main candidate to succeed Craig Levein.

Brown’s association with St Johnstone has gained attention in recent weeks, with the 39-year-old even being interviewed live on TNT Sports. Brown avoided the subject, saying, “I’ve been enjoying it [my time at Ayr].” Ayr has been wonderful. It’s been quite beneficial for me. I clearly went to Fleetwood, and now I’m studying my craft in Ayr.

His statements on broadcast anticipated his decision to stay with the Championship team, which is pushing for promotion at the end of the season. According to Mailsport, St Johnstone owner Adam Webb attempted to persuade Brown to stay with Ayr, but he remained steadfast.

The Saints, who are presently eleventh in the Scottish Premiership with only four points, are contemplating Aberdeen’s Peter Leven and Tiernan Lynch from NIFL Premiership side Larne. They apparently have already contacted their Aberdeen rivals to’seek the green light’ to speak with Leven.

“I know Scott pretty well from my time here; we played in midfield together for a number of years, and you get to know what makes individuals tick, how good they are, and how much they understand the game.

“It’s not surprising that he’s moved into management, and he’s off to a great start. And I envision him getting a Premiership position before shortly.”
