United’s Euro League campaign began with a dismal draw, failing to build on their impressive performance against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Christian Eriksen scored United’s first goal, his third in a row, but made a crucial blunder that allowed Sam Lammers to equalize with over 20 minutes remaining.

In the dying stages, United threw everything at the Dutch team in the hopes of regaining the lead, with Harry Maguire coming closest to scoring. However, United finished the game with only five shots on target.

And Twente manager Oosting believed the only moment his team was under pressure was when United was fighting for a late winner.

“All my men did well,” Oosting stated. “The game plan was also effective.

“You want to see certain things in defense and offense ahead of time, and we did an excellent job of that. If you wait too long, they are good footballers who create opportunities.

“If you put them under a lot of strain, you might drive them to make mistakes, which will eventually lead them further away from their goal. Then it comes down to coordination and bravery. Not only does one need guts on the field, but also in defense.

“After the break, we attempted to leap with our backs to the right, but if it doesn’t succeed, they’re gone so soon. We performed well tactically throughout our encounter against Manchester United.

“Except for the last ten minutes, when we were down five and four before that. We performed an excellent job.”
