Hull City transfer news: Tigers bolster centre-forward options with free agent signing

Hull City transfer news: Tigers bolster centre-forward options with free agent signing.

Hull City signed the free agent to fill the void left by their failure to sign Joao Pedro on deadline day.

The Tigers signed four players on transfer deadline day but were unable to land the third centre-forward they wanted having sold Oscar Estupinan, seen Liam Delap recalled after a loan and released Billy Sharp and Aaron Connolly to join Doncaster Rovers and Sunderland respectively.

Pedro, an Italian international who was born in Brazil, was free to sign outside the window after being let go by Fenerbahce.

The club may choose to extend the 32-year-old’s contract by an additional year once he signs a one-year deal.

Pedro scored 86 goals in 271 games during his fruitful eight-year tenure at Cagiliari, which earned him his only Italian cap. However, his results since have not been particularly noteworthy.

He moved to Turkey for £5.4 million in 2022 after his success in Italy, but he only managed five goals for Fenerbahce, one of which came in the Europa League.

After spending the previous season on loan with Gremio in Brazil, where he only managed three goals in thirty games, he was let go by his parent club.

The striker will need time to get up to speed after not starting or playing since June or July, when he was a substitute against Palmeiras. Hull is hoping to challenge Chris Bedia and Mason Burstow, both of whom have yet to score this season.

Despite Tom Walter’s promise to lead Hull with an attacking style of play, the team has only managed six goals in seven games this season, including three goals at Stoke City in their most recent game, which resulted in their first victory.
