“Hands off” transfer warning issued to Sheffield United and Leeds United over Birmingham City top player
Following reports of a summer interest, Sheffield United and Leeds United cautioned Birmingham City star.
A transfer warning has been sent to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United and Leeds United regarding a rumored summer transfer target who only joined his present team in January of this year. In the summer window, South Korean midfielder Paik Seung-ho was connected to both Leeds and the Blades, as well as several other Championship clubs, following Birmingham City’s relegation to League One.
But once the transfer window closed, the former Barcelona B player stayed in the Midlands and has been instrumental in their successful League One debut, finishing joint top of the table with Wrexham ahead of this weekend’s games. Although it is still believed that other teams are monitoring the 27-year-old, Davies told Birmingham Live that “there would have definitely been interest in him.”
However, I never wavered in my belief that he will play a significant role this season and in the years to come. He has great character and is a great player. I didn’t think losing him was a serious threat. He needs to continue being as good as he has been thus far.
After losing several midfielders, such as Ben Osborn and Ollie Norwood, United needed more midfield strength in the summer. However, they were unable to find suitable replacements for Oliver Arblaster and Vini Souza, their first-choice duo. Due to Arblaster’s injury, young Sydie Peck has been given an opportunity, which he has seized in anticipation of this weekend’s trip to Portsmouth.
