Heung-min Son‘s future at Tottenham Hotspur is rumored to be the subject of a significant decision.Since joining Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in a £24 million transfer during the summer of 2015, the 32-year-old has scored 164 goals and provided 86 assists in over 400 appearances, solidifying his position as a key member of the North London team. Son’s contract expires in the summer, but he has already said he would be open to committing to the team in the near future for the long haul.
The South Korean international stated earlier this week:
“We haven’t talked [about] anything yet. I could see that I’m really focused on this season. Every second feels like a goal at this age.We are in a lot of tournaments, especially this season, so it feels like I’m caring even more about this. All I have to do is concentrate on this circumstance and this year. All I want is to win something that these players, this club, and everyone else in this room deserve. That is my goal in this work. You never know what will happen in the future, but I promise to give this club my all. Nearly ten years have passed since I gave everything. We’ll watch and see. The most crucial thing is that my contract with the club is still in effect. I just want to give it my all throughout the duration of my contract.”
To guarantee that Son stays with the team for an additional season, the Evening Standard has reported that Spurs are prepared to initiate a one-year extension inside Son’s contract.
It’s hard to imagine a Spurs side without Son – but that was a realistic prospect as he entered into the final year of his current deal. There would certainly be a whole host of takers if the forward was to leave the club – so triggering the extension in his deal makes sense.”
