Sunderland returned to winning ways by defeating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 on Friday night.
Eliezer Mayenda’s brace helped a much-changed Sunderland side to an important win at Hillsborough on Friday night.
Here’s how we evaluated the Black Cats…
1) Anthony Patterson
There wasn’t much he could do about the goal, but he made one excellent stop from Ingelsson to keep the hosts from gaining the lead. An important moment in the game. 7. Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson
2. Leo Hjelde.
Perhaps he was lucky not to be penalised for a handball inside his own box early on. For Mayenda’s opening goal, he played well forward and was typically solid defensively. Given his limited playing time, he put forth a decent performance.
3.Trai Hume
He missed a few tackles that you would expect him to make, but he dug in and provided an excellent assist on Mayenda’s goal. In an otherwise awful game, this was a true high point.
4. Chris Mepham was steady for the most part, but lost the ball too quickly during Sunderland’s throw for Paterson’s goal.
