These are the 21 worst neighbourhoods in Sheffield for burglaries as police report rise in offences

Sheffield has seen a rise in burglaries – and these are the worst hotspots in the city.

As South Yorkshire Police highlighted efforts to address the spike this week, we compiled the most recent official numbers for the number of burglaries in each of the city’s 70 neighbourhoods.

In the picture below, we’ve compiled and sorted the 21 Sheffield neighbourhoods with the most reported break-ins.

Police in Sheffield have announced that officers would conduct extra patrols in areas where there has been a recent increase in burglaries. They have also cautioned that criminals may try to use the longer dark hours to slip away unnoticed and hunt for easy opportunities.

Last month, police detained over 30 men in Sheffield on suspicion of burglary.

Our gallery utilizes numbers from Sheffield Council’s ‘Local Insights’ section, which are based on official police figures.

The neighbourhoods are rated according to the number of break-ins per thousand households. We also provided the total number of break-ins for each.

The numbers cover a 12-month period from September 2023 to August 2024.

The data are based on where burglaries occurred rather than where they were reported.

The photographs are for illustrative reasons only, and the figures do not refer to any specific buildings or streets.

To avoid being a victim of burglary, police recommended:

> Keep all doors closed, even if you are inside your home. Burglars will look for open doors as an easy way to slide in.

> Ensure that any side gates or outdoor buildings, such as sheds and garages, are locked and secured where possible.

> Consider installing a house CCTV and monitor lighting system.

> Install a burglar alarm and set it when you leave the house.

> Install a steering wheel lock on your vehicles, even if they’re parked in your driveway.

> Keep any spare car keys in a safe location, away from your front entrance.

> If you plan to leave your home to take a joyous holiday, contact a neighbor or friend to check on your property and keep an eye out for any strange behavior.
