Manager Carlos Corberan of West Brom has stated that striker Daryl Dike could return to the first team in “five or six weeks.”

American striker Dike was acquired by West Brom from Orlando City during the winter transfer window of 2022.

The strong forward arrived at The Hawthorns as a top offensive prospect after enjoying an outstanding half-season loan with Barnsley the previous season. But for Dike, things haven’t exactly worked out as planned yet.

Injuries have plagued his time with the Baggies and after muscular injuries, he’s been on the sidelines with back-to-back achilles tendon ruptures. His last competitive match for the Championship side was 227 days ago.

But the end appears to be in sight for the West Brom favorite as he works to regain full fitness.

Carlos Corberan, cited by Birmingham Live, stated that Dike made a significant progress last week as he started a three-step program to return to 100%. After completing this process, which could take five to six weeks, he will be open for selection.

What the West Brom manager said was as follows:

Speaking of Dike, we had a busy week last week.

Assume he has three tasks to finish: first, he must work with the medical staff; next, he must work with physical coaches, and during that phase, he must create some unique, position-specific drills; and last, he must create some drills with the squad.

The first day he conducted some drills with the team was Friday. It does not entail team training. It implies that he could be able to earn 10% from training.

“He has begun this process, but it will take longer than a month—probably five or six weeks—to complete it and get to the point where he can join the team at the very end.”

Being watchful

In the upcoming weeks and months, the Baggies must carefully manage their player’s return to action after a difficult period of injuries since joining West Brom.

Re-injury has been Dike’s enemy for the previous few years, so the last thing the Baggies want to do is push things through too soon and worsen another problem.

Regarding the striker, though, it’s encouraging news as he begins to factor back into Carlos Corberan’s team.
Options for strikers

Since West Brom lacks depth up top, they will be appreciative of Dike’s return.

Josh Maja’s performance has obscured worries about his lack of choices. The Baggies’ perfect start to the current Championship campaign has been largely down to his comeback, with six goals in six games.

Karlan Grant, who has been playing on the left wing, can also play up top, although Devante Cole has been providing cover. That department will appear much more formidable when Dike gets back.
