Meet the newest debutante of Aston Villa of Nigerian ancestry

August 2023 saw Jamaldeen go from West Bromwich Albion to Aston Villa, and two months later he secured his first professional contract.

Yesterday, Jamaldeen Ayomide Olasunkanmi Jimoh-Aloba, a teenage English midfielder eligible to play in Nigeria, made his debut for Aston Villa by coming off the bench in the ninetieth minute, according to Soccernet.ng.

The 17-year-old versatile midfielder came on for Emiliano Buendia, who had scored Villa’s first goal, as Unai Emery’s team defeated Wycombe 2-1 at Adams Park in the third round of the EFL Carabao Cup.

Wycombe’s fifth-minute extra-time goal from Richard Kone proved to be nothing more than a consolation after Buendia’s header in the 55th minute and Jhon Duran’s spot kick in the 85th.

Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba is who?

Jamaldeen, who was born in England on November 2, 2006, is a versatile player who specializes in attacking midfield but can also play different positions in the middle of the park.

The highly-regarded youth began his football career at the West Brom Academy. Due to his talent, Villa paid a million pounds to capture his services in August 2023, fending off interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City. He signed his first professional deal with The Villans two months later.

Due to his Nigerian heritage, Jimoh-Aloba is qualified to play for the Super Eagles in the future. He has, nevertheless, competed for England at the young level, playing for the U-16 and U-18 squads.

He primarily plays for the U-18 team of the club. He played a key role in Villa’s Premier League 2 campaign the previous year, starting 18 games and dishing out four assists.

This season, he has also made appearances for Villa in the UEFA Youth League, and more are anticipated as the year progresses. After playing his first five minutes yesterday, he became the 37th youngest Aston Villa debutant ever, at 17 years and 358 days.
