Punished'… EFL pundit drops two-goal score prediction for Watford vs Sunderland

Sunderland’s next game is against Watford, one of the Championship’s early top six candidates.

Sunderland is currently in second position in the Championship standings after a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough, while Watford is in eighth place.

After the first few games of the season, Watford and Sunderland were the top two teams. However, the Hornets have now gone winless in their past four games in all competitions, losing 2-1 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Watford lost 4-1 away to Norwich City in their most recent Championship match. Sunderland recovered from a surprising 3-2 loss to Plymouth Argyle with a victory at the Stadium of Light, thanks to a Chris Rigg back-heel goal.

Regis Le Bris’ team is one point behind current league leaders West Brom, who travel to Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Sam Parkin’s Watford versus Sunderland Score Prediction

Sunderland’s ability to recover from their setback at Plymouth demonstrates that Le Bris and his team are serious early Championship challengers.

And now they must follow it up with a run of good form in order to break away in the top two places. However, their last excursion to Vicarage Road was not a success.

Sunderland defeated Watford 2-0 at home but lost 1-0 away at the end of April. Despite having the same first-team personnel, Sunderland’s performance in April and today is significantly different.

On the Championship Check-In podcast, EFL expert Sam Parkin projected a Black Cats win, citing their previous defeat at Norwich. Just one point from their past three, I believe.

“Sunderland has been severely punished for that one awful 45 minutes of football at Argyle, so don’t expect lightning to strike again away from home.

“Based on current form, I’m going with Sunderland. I’ll go for a 2-0 away victory.”
