Wolves complete O’Donnell signing

Luke O’Donnell, a young international for the Republic of Ireland, has officially joined Wolves Academy.

The 17-year-old midfielder signed a professional contract with the Old Gold after moving here from Derry City.

In November 2023, O’Donnell made his senior debut for Derry at the age of sixteen. He got a professional contract with the Candy Stripes in February of this year.

O’Donnell is a former player for Cockhill Celtic who has international experience with Ireland’s under-17 squad. The year before, he took part in their European Qualifiers.

Football academy manager Jon Hunter-Barrett expressed his satisfaction at landing a player the team has been watching for some time, saying, “It’s been a real challenge for us but, most importantly, for Luke and his family to wait for this amount of time before officially signing for us. Luke is a boy we tried to sign a year ago.”

He is another adaptable player who can play centre back, as he has demonstrated for his country, or as a six or an eight.

Luke is an excellent athlete who can handle the ball and has a fantastic height and build. He is another individual with a strong personality who is reliable every day, and we believe we can help him establish the foundation he will need to continue his gaming career in the future.
