I can assure that.” – Birmingham City manager Chris Davies issues Alfie May’s prediction

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies is confident that Alfie May will start scoring on a regular basis as his current goal drought persisted against Leyton Orient.

The 31-year-old has been League One’s most potent frontman in recent seasons, scoring 66 goals for both Cheltenham Town and Charlton Athletic over the last three seasons, before moving to St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park for a reported £775,000 in July following the Blues’ relegation from the Championship.

While Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Ethan Laird’s goals in the second half helped Davies’ team defeat the O’s 2-0 and extend their unbeaten run in the third division to 17 games, May’s goalless streak reached 11 games, which is his longest in less than five years. He also went the same length without scoring for the Robins during the early stages of their League Two title-winning campaign.

The Blues manager, however, has reversed these viewpoints, seeing how May keeps finding the proper spots to ultimately break the aforementioned run.

Alfie May still has a beneficial impact on Birmingham City’s season.

May has contributed positively to Blues’ season across all competitions, despite the pressure he is putting on himself to break his goalless streak. The former Doncaster Rovers player has contributed to 15 of the Blues’ 53 goals in 30 league games.

His movement has occasionally caused him to drift out wide, which has allowed him to connect up incredibly well with Jay Stansfield, who has 20 goals.

In Stansfield’s brief absence, May is obviously under pressure to perform better in the season’s final 16 games, and Davies is uncertain if Lyndon Dykes will be able to play again before the EFL Trophy final against Peterborough United on April 13th after the Scotland international pulled up with a calf injury in last weekend’s goalless draw against Reading.

The seasoned player must, however, focus on the bright side, as he is still averaging 1.5 shots per game, which supports Davies’ position on the subject. If one of them does find the net, it could lead to yet another purple patch for May, similar to when he scored in each of his first four games for the West.
