Wrexham have impressive secret weapon that gives them the edge in the League One promotion race

Wrexham have impressive secret weapon that gives them the edge in the League One promotion race.

For a crucial statistic, Wrexham and Manchester City have been mentioned, which is fantastic news for their promotion bid.

The Red Dragons have had an incredible journey over the past few years.

Following the appointment of Phil Parkinson to the dugout in 2022, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds assumed leadership at the Racecourse Ground. This marked the end of Wrexham’s 15-year National League tenure, and the team has since earned back-to-back promotions.

Even though the team had won both of its prior campaigns, there was a perception that League One would be the club’s maximum level for the foreseeable future and that they would spend at least a year in the third division.

Even though it’s still extremely early, the Hollywood-owned club may be headed for a record three spin promotions.

After defeating Crawley Town 2-1 in their most recent game, Wrexham is now tied for first place in League One.

Runner-up Although Birmingham City now has a game in hand, Parkinson’s team may have an advantage in this season’s promotion battle due to one important statistic.

Wrexham named alongside Manchester City for key stat

Wrexham’s sole league loss of 2024–25 came on Monday away to Birmingham City, capping an incredible start to the season.

However, over the first six weeks of the current campaign, the Welsh team has been playing at a high level at home.

With the exception of a 3-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on the first round and a goal conceded to Crawley on Saturday, Wrexham has won every home game this season without giving up a goal.

It has now been revealed that Parkinson’s club, having now recorded eight straight victories, is enjoying one of the longest unbeaten streaks in the EFL.

Manchester City, under the direction of Pep Guardiola, wins an astounding 33 home games to take first position on the list, while Wrexham and Bristol City are tied for fifth place.

Why Wrexham have advantage in League One promotion race

For a team like Wrexham, it’s fantastic to be included in any list that features the reigning Premier League champions.

Even though the Welsh team is far behind City’s 33-game winning streak, their promotion bid this season might benefit by being the only League One team on the list.

The Red Dragons’ defeat to Birmingham and their 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers have cost them four points already this season.

However, both of those fixtures were away from home and because they have so far won every fixture at the Racecourse, Wrexham are still top of the table.

Should they be able to continue that superb home winning streak in the coming months, it should help the club fend off competition from the likes of Birmingham and Barnsley as their home records are nowhere near as good.

Away ties are always tricky no matter who you face but a solid home record is so important for any side no matter what their goals are for the season.

And if by some miracle Wrexham did go on to match City’s record, they would almost certainly be guaranteed an automatic promotion place come April.
