Norwich City: Thorup inside track on Schwartau and Slimane

Johannes Hoff Thorup is open to more Norwich City transfer raids on his Danish homeland.

Oscar Schwartau, a teenage midfielder, made his home league debut in the 4-1 Championship victory over Watford.

In the last hours of the summer transfer window, Thorup used his connections to lure Danish-born Anis Ben

Slimane from Sheffield United, and he disclosed that the two have been friends since their youth days of football.

The head coach of City stated, “We really thought he was well established in Sheffield, so he wasn’t someone who was

on the drawing board when we started the transfer window.” We didn’t think it would have been an option since we

thought he was a guy they intended to employ this season.

“As the U14 coach in AB, I had the pleasure of knowing Anis even before the Superliga.” It’s a comparatively long-

standing familiarity. I am aware of him as a person and that he is an incredible person. diligent, competent, and a

talented football player.

Oscar’s willingness to try something different was what made the connection possible. Fortunately, he showed interest when we informed him about the idea and how we saw him in it. He could see either of the two Danish coaches, too.

“His profile is exactly what we are looking for. He is a player that we can see developing to be able to perform at the next level. So when it was an opportunity, I was definitely in.”

Thorup had earlier expressed his surprise that at Norwich’s ability to lure Brondby’s highly-regarded Schwartau this summer.

“I don’t know if he had to be persuaded, but what was difficult for him was to take a step out, because Brondby is a big club in Denmark,” he stated. The club is fantastic and does a lot of nice things, but it seemed to me that he was a little stuck.

“I don’t think it was an easy decision for him to leave the club, but he still had a deep love for it and wished that he could succeed in Brondby. However, he could realistically see that it wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, so he needed some new pastures and some new input.”

City’s recruitment network will continue to monitor the Danish market.
