‘Much further along’ – What Championship bosses have said about Leeds United and Daniel Farke

‘Much further along’ – What Championship bosses have said about Leeds United and Daniel Farke.

After the first six rounds of the season, the Championship’s preseason favourites for the championship are in good shape. Leeds United has a hard stretch ahead of them before the next international break, but they are now in sixth place with 11 points and 4 clean sheets under their belt under Daniel Farke.

Are all United supporters content with their development? No. Do some people still doubt that Farke can guide them back to the promised land? Indeed.

However, the Whites are only five points behind West Bromwich Albion, who are led by former United coach Carlos Corberan, who set the early pace. Over the summer, eight new players joined the team, replacing the 19 senior players who left. Throughout the upcoming weeks and months, this group should only become stronger.

Farke’s side have played seven teams so far across all competitions. LeedsLive has dug out the quotes of what each manager has said on the Whites:

John Mousinho – Portsmouth

After their thrilling 3–3 draw at Elland Road, Mousinho stated Premier League managers ought to try to get some of Leeds United’s best players before the summer transfer window ends.

“The lads gave everything and I think Leeds know they have been in a game today and that is the most important thing,” he stated. “It breaks our hearts to lose. Overall, I believe that was a really good point because Leeds most likely deserved to win. They are, in my opinion, an exceptional side with some exceptional people.

“Over the next three weeks, a few players worth millions of pounds could play there. After tonight, if I were the manager of the Premier League, I would most probably sign a number of them.”

Michael Carrick – Middlesbrough

Speaking before the Carabao Cup first round tie, Carrick described United as a having a “fantastic squad”. He said: “Great group of players, individually and collectively. They proved that by how far they went, how close they came to the Premier League.”

Both teams fielded much-changed teams as Boro ran-out 3-0 winners after second half strikes from Anfernee Dijksteel, Delano Burgzorg and Josh Coburn.

Carlos Corberan – West Bromwich Albion

In the wake of the goalless draw at The Hawthorns, Corberan talked highly of United’s prospects of winning a top level return. “When you are watching previous game of Leeds, for me, they didn’t win the previous games, not for the lack of chances,” Corberan stated. “Yes, their inaccuracy in both of their major shots cost them the victory.

“I think it’s crucial that the team has lessened Leeds’ prospects and given them a sense of identity since they have some of the finest players in the division, in my opinion.

Although I believe that things are changing and that all teams are struggling, Leeds still has a solid foundation as one of the strongest teams.

Danny Röhl – Sheffield Wednesday

The German acknowledged that a better team defeated the Owls at Hillsborough. He said: “You saw a good Leeds side with a lot of quality. It should not be an excuse, but I think in some moments you saw the difference.

“Against a strong Leeds, you have to make a lot of things right and maybe sometimes in some situations, you need a little bit of luck. But especially, the second conceded goal, this is too easy and a five against one situation and (if) we stay in one line, we cover our team-mates backs. It’s then difficult to take something as then our opponent is so strong.

“You can always concede a goal against them and for the first one, they played well, but even in this goal, you can defend differently in some moments and we have to defend differently.

“All in all, they controlled the game and it was hard. But when you play against a strong opposition, it’s about showing resilience and sometimes, (when) you suffer, you have to stay together as a team. This is normal and what we have to take from this game.”

Tim Walter – Hull City

United claimed their first home win of the season after goals from Mateo Joseph and substitute Joel Piroe. “At the end, you are losing over here two nil and you are frustrated,” said Tigers head coach Walter. “Leeds are a good team.

“They are much further along than we are in their philosophy because the coach has been there longer, but in the end, it’s not necessary to lose over here and that’s the reason why I’m really frustrated.”

Scott Parker – Burnley

The Clarets manager, prior to the Elland Road encounter, lauded Daniel Farke’s work with the Whites. He remarked, “It’s a big test for us against a very good side.” They certainly made some changes in the summer, but most of the players have been there for a while. Overall, they have a rather stable roster.

It’s a very challenging work; from the outside, some people perceive it as simply the squad, which offers you a fantastic opportunity, but there are a lot more factors involved. I have the utmost respect for Daniel and the job he has done in leading a team out of this league multiple times. It was a 50/50 game that they just lost out on previous season.

Erol Bulut – Cardiff City

Largie Ramazani and Piroe scored goals to ensure the Bluebirds’ fifth loss in as many games. “We knew how important and how difficult the game would be for us,” Bulut added. “The strategy was to maintain composure, deny the opposition any opportunities, and mount a strong defence.

“However, we were down to 10 men after 23 minutes, and we gave up after 30. Against a side like Leeds, whose calibre makes it difficult to rally and turn the tide of play.

We gave them opportunities in the first half because we were losing the ball too frequently. Too many simple, individual errors. If you invite Leeds to take part in this offence, they will accept it when you do something against them.”
