Sunderland star signed for €23m in the summer to miss Sheffield Wednesday clash

Sheffield Wednesday’s next opponents could be without a key player for Friday’s Hillsborough match.

A high-profile Sunderland forward is expected to miss Friday’s match against Sheffield Wednesday after reports from the North East claimed he would be absent for an extended period of time. Enzo Le Fee transferred from French club Rennes to Italian giants Roma in the summer, reportedly for up to €23 million, but was loaned out to Wearside in January.

The loan move reunited French youth international Le Fee with his former Lorient manager Regis Le Bris, who has led the Black Cats to a great season so far, with the club currently fourth. Fortunes have fallen with back-to-back defeats, and Sunderland’s mood has been further depressed after their star signing limped out of their loss to Hull City over the weekend with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Defender Dan Ballard was also injured in the Tigers’ defeat, and similar sources imply he will miss the Wednesday game and beyond.

More will most likely be announced during Le Bris’ pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon. Danny Röhl, Sheffield Wednesday’s manager, is also expected to attend press conferences around lunchtime.
