Jamie Vardy proved why Van Nistelrooy was 100 percent right about him after Leicester City hammered by Brentford

Jamie Vardy proved why Van Nistelrooy was 100 percent right about him after Leicester City hammered by Brentford.

Last time out, Leicester City experienced one of the most painful defeats of the season against Brentford.

Leicester City fought with Brentford in the Premier League on Friday evening, and nothing went as planned. The Foxes looked decent against Arsenal the weekend before, but fans’ hopes of launching a survival push have been dashed. During the game, Leicester fans turned on Ruud van Nistlerooy, demanding that the manager be fired. Meanwhile, more than one player underperformed significantly during the 90 minutes. Except for Woyo Coulibaly, the entire backline against the Bees was a complete mess.

Wilfred Ndidi was far from his best, and Jordan Ayew and Bobby De Cordova-Reid once again delivered uninspired performances out wide. Jamie Vardy, a long-time Leicester player, was one of the team’s few bright spots against Brentford.

Ruud van Nistelrooy proven right about Jamie Vardy

Late last month, Van Nistelrooy lauded Vardy for the leadership he brings to Leicester. He stated, “It’s difficult to look into the future, but if I look at it now, at a 38-year-old striker in the Premier League who is performing like he is, with his fitness levels and intelligent movement in and out of possession, and the leader that he is for us, it’s remarkable.” “The way he looks after himself, for me it implies he can carry on for a long time.” His leadership was on full show in the Brentford thrashing, with the 38-year-old one of only two players who appeared to care about the game and tried to come back.

He worked tirelessly and though it wasn’t his best display, Vardy proved Van Nistelrooy right, and once again showed he will give everything to the club and is trying his best to lead the Foxes out of this relegation scrap.

Jamie Vardy still one of Leicester City’s top-rated players

The Englishman is now in the final six months of his contract and, considering his age, may retire when 2024/25 comes to an end. Fans will be hoping that does not happen, and Vardy has already indicated about his future this season. Meanwhile, though he may be past his peak, only two other players who have started at least ten games this season have a higher rating than the striker, according to WhoScored. Ndidi has a 6.82 rating after 17 starts, Facundo Buonanotte has a 6.72 after 12 starts, and Vardy ranks third with 24 starts and a 6.64 rating.
