Aston Villa handed referee for Ipswich Town who made fatal error during infamous Leeds United clash

Aston Villa will be optimistic of maintaining their early-season momentum when they go to Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa defeated Wolves 3-1 on Saturday, marking Unai Emery’s fifth win in six matches in all competitions.

Emery faced a Villa claim as Matheus Cunha scored before half an hour, but a second-half comeback secured the three points.

Following victories over Young Boys in the Champions League and Wolves in the Midlands, the Villans will now face newly promoted Ipswich Town.

Kieran McKenna’s team is still looking for their first Premier League win of the season, but they have showed encouraging indications, particularly in their 4-1 defeat to Manchester City, where they grabbed the lead via Sammie Szmodics.

It promises to be a fantastic show at Portman Road, but the refereeing choices may worry supporters.

Stuart Attwell has been appointed as the referee for Ipswich Town against Aston Villa.

The Premier League has appointed Stuart Attwell as the referee for Villa’s trip to East Anglia this weekend, with Darren England on VAR duty.

Attwell has coached Villa in only 16 games, but their record is impressive, with nine wins and three losses.

The 41-year-old is also known for issuing 36 yellow cards, one red card, and five penalties during their outings.

There is always drama and excitement when Attwell referees an Aston Villa match, and many will recall the controversial decision he made in their Championship encounter against Leeds United in 2019.
