Valerien Ismael, born in Strasbourg, is excited to return to English football and join Rovers, a “special” club.
He is refreshed and ready to hit the ground running, starting with the final 12 games of 2024-25.
Ismael has previously worked for Barnsley, West Bromwich Albion, Besiktas, and Watford.
And, having been through the play-offs with Barnsley a few years ago, where he coached Callum Brittain and Cauley Woodrow, Ismael is looking for a similar outcome this time around in blue and white.
“It feels very good for me to be here at Blackburn Rovers,” the 49-year-old told RoversTV after signing a deal until the summer of 2028.
“Blackburn Rovers has been a household name ever since I was a child. I began my career with Strasbourg in 1994-95, the same season that Rovers won the Premier League.
“Being the club’s Head Coach is very special to me.
“It’s a team I’ve come up against a lot in Championship games, and it’s always been a meaningful name for me because that year was a pivotal one for Rovers, with them winning the Premier League and creating memories for me.
“As a young player, you look at English football and Italian football, as I did as a manager and player. For me, English football is unique; it feels different, has a different energy.
I love it! “While speaking with the board, we discussed both the short-term and long-term goals.
“We discussed the clear vision, how we want to play, how we want to integrate young players while maintaining the Rovers identity. “I’m very delighted to be back and ready to start with Rovers.”
