Wayne Rooney reserves special praise for ‘interesting’ West Brom star

Wayne Rooney reserves special praise for ‘interesting’ West Brom star.

One West Brom player over the weekend left Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney extremely impressed.

Josh Maja was the star of the show once again for West Bromwich Albion as he scored his sixth goal in six Championship games to give his team a 1-0 victory at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies have already piled up 16 of the possible 18 points this season, and they look certain to maintain their incredible unblemished start with another three points. In that run, Maja has been instrumental in giving West Brom a reliable and appropriate center-forward option.

Rooney made sure to congratulate Maja on his excellent work after leading Plymouth to one victory, two draws, and three losses in his first six games in charge.

“He’s a fascinating player who can be challenging to prepare for. We knew that he would drop in and assume a false nine position, Rooney said to our sister daily Express & Star following the game on Saturday.

“A player who is confident in his ability to score goals seems to always find that one moment when he can make the difference, even though I thought we handled him okay at times.

“Although I thought we handled him very well at times, he makes the play that wins the game. He’s a gifted player, and West Brom is a strong team with a lot of experience and capacity to produce results,” said Rooney.

Maja, who is having the best start to an English season of any player in history, would undoubtedly take note of such a legendary former player’s praise. Of course, Rooney is the record goalscorer for Manchester United, and he topped the charts for the England national team for a considerable amount of time prior to Harry Kane taking over.
