Rodgers knows Daizen Maeda’s form will ‘bring attention’ from clubs
After Maeda’s close-range goal in the 24th minute, the home team had a commanding 3-0 lead with to additional contributions from captain Callum McGregor and returning Portuguese winger Jota.
The Dons were farther down when Celtic substitute Yang Hyun-Jun added a fourth goal in the 72nd minute after they had wasted several chances when the game was goalless.
Even though Shayden Morris, the Dons’ replacement, cut the lead in the final minute of regular time, Maeda still had time to score his second goal of the season and his 25th overall.
Rangers now trail Celtic by 16 points at the top of the William Hill Premiership, and Rodgers acknowledged that other teams would show interest if Maeda, his team’s “symbol,” keeps up his current form.
“Yes, I would think he would,” Rodgers answered. Because of their diligence and efficiency, I believe that several of the players will. Furthermore, they have done it at the greatest level possible.
You’re demonstrating your ability to perform at that level and on that platform if you’re playing in the Champions League (against Bayern Munich).
“So, sure, I believe that if you work as hard as he does and score goals as he does, attention will naturally follow.
However, I also believe that the group and its organization truly highlight his strengths. He is a fantastic representation of our group and staff.
He is the best at what he does, and I’ve said it before, in terms of pressing and the intensity with which he presses.
After that, I think he can score from any position in the front line.
“As a central striker, he has scored goals from the left and right sides. Yes, his initial objective was to get on it with great eagerness.
After a fantastic cross from Ali, he scores the second goal, which is what he has demonstrated frequently this season—that is, in the areas we want him to be.
