Sunderland boasts a number of young stars. Regis Le Bris may be set to reveal another to the Black Cats fans.

Sunderland is known for producing great young players and is regarded as one of the top sites for their development.

Sunderland is known for prioritising young footballers, ranking 20th in Europe in terms of minutes provided to U21 players.

A recent research ranked Joe Bellingham and Milan Aleksic among the top 100 young players in the globe, highlighting the strength of the Sunderland first-team’s youth and talent.

The Academy of Light attracts and graduates athletes, including Tom Watson, who aspires to follow in the footsteps of teammates Anthony Patterson, Dan Neil, and Chris Rigg.

Watson appears to be the next best teenager to rise through the ranks. Regis Le Bris is interested in a potential star at the Stadium of Light.

Regis Le Bris excited by Trey Ogunsuyi development at Sunderland

Trey Ogunsuyi, a Sunderland youth player, joined Watson on the bench for the 1-0 triumph against Middlesbrough.

The 18-year-old striker has been an unidentified substitute in the last two games but has yet to make his senior debut for the Black Cats.

Despite this, Le Bris has high hopes for the Belgian youth, telling The Northern Echo following Middlesbrough: “It was a fantastic opportunity for him (Ogunsuyi).

“At the moment, he is still a young kid who has to learn more about our atmosphere and gain experience playing with professional players.

“Especially for an away game, it was an intriguing opportunity for him. He definitely needs time to develop. But he possesses numerous attributes and is a promising player for the future.”

Aaron Connolly arrival may be bad new for Trey Ogunsuyi

Ogunsuyi may be concerned about his chances of playing in the Championship this season, given Watson’s status as a regular on the bench this season but yet to play a single minute.

Sunderland’s striker department is now lacking depth due to Ahmed Abdullahi’s injury after his deadline day arrival. They are reportedly preparing to sign Aaron Connolly on free transfer.

That might push Ogunsuyi farther down the pecking order. If Connolly is fit, we may not see the youngster play in the Championship this season, but it’s excellent to have young players vying for a spot in the first squad.

Ogunsuyi might be the next one to make an impact, and he could be the long-term solution to Sunderland’s striker troubles.
