Leeds United: Former CEO alludes to Birmingham City in Daniel Farke’s caution

Keith Wyness has issued a warning to Leeds United not to fire Daniel Farke just yet.

In an interview with Football Insider, Wyness cited Birmingham City’s dismissal of manager John Eustace as an example of what may happen to a team that fires a manager too soon.

The management at St Andrew’s didn’t think Eustace’s outstanding work at Blues, where he had even led the Midlands team into the play-offs, was sufficient.

They named Wayne Rooney as Eustace’s replacement, and that turned out to be a pivotal moment for all the wrong reasons as Birmingham was demoted to League One at the conclusion of the previous season.

Leeds has had a decent start to the 2024–25 season and is now in sixth place, which is a solid place to be at this point in the competition.

As long as they are in the running for promotion, the Whites’ position doesn’t really matter at this early point in the season, despite their hopes to be even higher in the division.

The Whites were able to guarantee their spot in the play-offs for the time being with a 2-0 victory away to Cardiff City last weekend, but it is still unclear if they will be able to hold onto that position.

Keith Wyness warns Leeds United about Daniel Farke

Despite their strong start, Leeds have dropped points in games they should have expected to gain something, so things haven’t exactly been simple for Leeds manager Farke.

They would have preferred to secure a win in their draw against Portsmouth and at least a draw in their home loss against Burnley following their poor Carabao Cup loss to Middlesbrough.

Despite these disheartening losses, Wyness thinks Leeds shouldn’t consider Farke’s dismissal too soon.

“Any nationality can do that; terrible British owners have also existed in addition to American owners.”

It’s a hunger for success, but in football, getting there isn’t always easy.

Farke is a good manager, in my opinion, and he’s fantastic for Leeds. Every hasty judgment would be incorrect since he had to reorganize the team and get things going.”

Keith Wyness regarding Daniel Farke is correct.

Farke is a gifted manager with experience at this level of management.

If Leeds fired their manager, it would be difficult to see them go the same route as Birmingham given that the Whites have a very good team that can win promotion.

However, fans should continue to have faith in Farke as the Whites currently have stability under his leadership.

Wyness raises a reasonable argument when he says that Farke had to reassemble his team due to the summer’s flurry of activity both inside and outside the team.

He also deserves another chance at promotion with the West Yorkshire team, having led the team to a 90-point total the previous season.
