Ianis Hagi is reportedly considering leaving the Rangers in January, but only permanently.
The playmaker has been demoted to the B squad, as manager Philippe Clement has ruled him out of the first-team plans. According to Record Sport, the 25-year-old midfielder’s contract has a condition that would increase his salary if he played one more game for Rangers. He now has 99 appearances for the Light Blues.
According to Romanian publication Sport, Hagi is considering leaving the Light Blues when the winter window opens, despite his previous refusal to do so. It is stated that the player believes his loan term in La Liga “did not help him at all” and that “loaned players receive fewer opportunities,” which resulted in him being denied a temporary release from the Scottish Premiership.
He told Birmingham Live that moving up to Rangers had helped him cope with the pressure of winning every game. It’s made me feel better about the issue. I’ve had a terrific life, played for several football clubs, and taken out numerous loans. I’m an experienced player now, and I believe I can bring that to the club.”
In 2023, Rangers declined to sign James Sands on a £4 million permanent deal from New York City FC. And the American is back shining in the MLS after Michael Beale and Ross Wilson decided he was not worth the money.
NYFC head coach Nick Cushing believes the midfielder is performing well in the United States, saying, “It’s very crucial for us. He should be quite proud.
“He’s a homegrown player that plays for us. He is someone who has demonstrated his abilities this year. Based on data and statistics, I believe he wins the most tackles, duels, and balls in MLS. And that is a great asset to have on your team.
“I cannot recommend James Sands highly enough. He is a top player who is a true New Yorker. And you know, sometimes I think these moments are scripted, like James Sands scoring the equaliser versus Miami here. It is a really favourable time for us; it is an opportunity for us.”
