Daniel Farke delivers perfect response after Leeds United’s late show at Sheffield United
In a 3-1 victory over Championship promotion contenders Sheffield United, Leeds United manager Daniel Farke downplayed the significance of the result, stating that it was “just three points.”
After falling behind at halftime because to an error by goalkeeper Illan Meslier, Leeds produced an incredible comeback.
Junior Firpo scored a header in the second half, while Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe added goals in the last minute.
With just 12 games left to play, Leeds moved seven points clear of third-place Burnley with the victory, which followed last week’s dramatic late win over Sunderland.
On the other hand, Farke kept his composure and said, “Each and every point brings us closer to where we want to finish and you have to keep going in this league, you have to show consistency.”
He also stated: “Of course, if you play against the best sides, last week Sunderland and today Sheffield United, if you win these games it’s even better for the confidence, yes.”
“But it’s just three points,” he cautioned anyway. You shouldn’t let yourself go off the ground. Remain modest and steady.
Farke made the observation, “In this league the momentum can change very quickly,” indicating his awareness of the unpredictable nature of football.
You never know what’s going to happen and you always need a touch of luck.”
During the encounter, Sheffield United initially gained control, capitalising on an error by Meslier who badly parried Tyrese Campbell’s header into his own goal.
However, Leeds steadily gained control, and after Firpo’s thunderous 72nd-minute header equalized the score, the tide changed in their favour.
Tanaka’s 89th-minute header gave them the lead, and Piroe clinched the win with their third goal.
Farke expressed pride in his team, saying: “I’m proud of the boys. It’s one of the toughest places you can go – Bramall Lane, heated up. They’re in amazing shape.”
He praised his team’s ability to find a way to win, saying: “We were able to find not just another gear, but I would say two or three gears and in a tight game, against an excellent Sheffield United side.”
