Some quick thoughts from Ian12 on news that the Royals are now in exclusivity for a takeover.
Reading has begun exclusive discussions with an interested party. I just checked, Groundhog Day was on February 2, but this all sounds very familiar to us Reading supporters, doesn’t it?
This time, however, the statement differs.
“Reading Football Club can confirm it has committed to a letter of intent with a potential purchaser of the club.
“The parties will now enter a period of exclusivity to complete final due diligence and legally complete the transaction. Whilst timelines cannot be guaranteed, the structure of the deal should allow for a quick completion, which would be for the benefit of all concerned.
“Whilst we understand our supporters’ wish to know the purchaser’s identity, at this stage, confidentiality is preferred to complete at the earliest opportunity.
“The club can confirm the agreed sale includes the transfer of Mr Dai’s shareholding in The Reading Football Club Limited, as well as the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Facility.
“Further updates will be communicated once appropriate.”
The club wants to close the deal as soon as possible for the interest of all parties involved. It’s make-or-break moment.
We need this to happen now, as the season is coming to a conclusion. Our contract predicament is well established, with only five players committed after the summer. We also haven’t submitted our 2022/23 accounts, which were due by the end of June 2024. It’s also not too late to sign a free transfer for this season if we act swiftly (but don’t get ahead of ourselves).
Saturday’s point put us on 50, which is enough to keep us safe for another season, and although we await the outcome of this latest arrangement, I can’t help but believe it eliminates the immediate threat of any future point deductions.
