Burnley defeats Albion Women 1-0

High-flying Burnley of the FA WNL Northern Premier Division condemned Albion Women to a close loss on Sunday at Turf Moor. Despite creating opportunities of their own, the Baggies, who played a strong defense, were defeated by a goal from Reanna Blades in the second half. The team led by Siobhan Hodgetts-Still will play their next league game at Valley Stadium against Stourbridge on Wednesday, September 26 (ko 7.45pm).

Ellie May made her Albion debut, and Seren Wakins replaced Ali Miller in the midfield. The head coach made two changes to her team in Lancashire. Even though Burnley controlled the first part of the game, the visitors remained a threat on the opposite end. Izzy Green’s looping attempt, which painfully bounced over the crossbar, put Albion inches from taking the lead. May won the ball high inside the Clarets’ half, giving the Baggies another chance, but Naomi Hartley intercepted her square ball before it could go to substitute Miller.

But even with that strong effort, Albion fell down early in the second half. Burnley took the lead when Anna Gray crossed the six-yard box to Blades for an easy finish. Despite being behind, the visitors persisted in their search for a goal. Miller advanced down the left channel, sending a cross back towards Simran Jhamat, who was prevented from directing her effort in the direction of goal. Unfortunately, the visitors were unable to salvage a late equalizer, so they were left with just a point to show for their efforts.
