Danny Rohl has provided a new worrying injury update regarding a “really good” Sheffield Wednesday player, acting as a blow ahead of an important game against Sunderland on Friday.
Latest Sheffield Wednesday news
The Owls’ playoff push has stalled in recent weeks due to disappointing results. They lost 4-0 away to Burnley, who haven’t conceded in the league since before Christmas, and 2-1 at home to Coventry City, with a disastrous late error by goalkeeper Jam.
Rohl’s Owls are currently 12th in the Championship table, six points behind the playoffs. They face fourth-place Sunderland at Hillsborough on Friday night, and further dropped points could be fatal. Recent injuries, including the influential Barry Bannan, haven’t helped, and a new update has been released.
Sheffield Wednesday suffer new injury blow
Speaking to The Star, Rohl stated that Sheffield Wednesday winger Anthony Musaba has suffered an injury setback and would miss the Sunderland game: “At first, it looked good; he trained on Sunday (following the Coventry game), but he received a small reaction; now he has two rejections.”
“I hope he returns this week, next week, and before Plymouth. Sometimes an issue begins in one place of the body and then spreads to another through various activities.
“It’s unfortunate, but he’s optimistic, and I believe he’ll be ready for the rest of the season, perhaps the final eight or nine games. We are working on it, and he remains positive. It is obviously more difficult to remove him off the squad.”
This is an undeniable setback for the Owls ahead of what appears to be a must-win game, with Musaba capable of causing difficulties with his pace and trickery.
While not always the most consistent player, the 24-year-old can be a match-winner on his day, having scored twice and recorded five assists in the league this season, as well as being praised by Mark Robins in 2023: “They have some quality. Musaba is an excellent player, as evidenced by his recent goal scoring. He is swift, powerful, strong, and has a keen eye for goal. Cadamarteri up front works his socks off and never quits sprinting.
