The Foxes’ defeat to Brentford has left Leicester five points off 17th placed Wolverhampton Wanderers with just 12 games remaining in the Premier League.
West Ham await for Leicester on Thursday night in a game that will have fond memories for Ruud van Nistelrooy and a reminder of simple times.
Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester beat West Ham in the Dutchman’s first game in charge as manager of the Foxes.
Since then, it’s all gone downhill and barring a miracle, Championship football in the 2025/26 season feels inevitable.
To add further salt to the wounds, one player who could play a role in the Foxes’ relegation is someone they tried to sign in 2020.
Leicester tried to sign Jarrod Bowen
Unfortunately for Leicester, they won’t have someone with the quality of Jarrod Bowen to call upon.
Bowen is West Ham’s key player and someone who Graham Potter, who turned down Leicester, will look to as a source of inspiration at the London Stadium.
However, things could’ve been different had Bowen made the move to the East Midlands.
Back in 2020 when Bowen was tearing up the Championship for Hull City and in the form of his life by scoring 16 goals and six assists at the midway point of the 2019/20 season.
Unsurprisingly, the form grabbed the attention of several Premier League suitors and although Leicester were challenging for a Champions League spot, he chose West Ham instead, where he has since gone on to score the winner in the final of the Europa Conference League.
Jarrod Bowen could relegate Leicester City on Thursday night
Fast forward five years later and it seems that Bowen did pick the right club after all.
A win at Arsenal last weekend showed major signs of improvement under Potter and leave West Ham all but safe.
On the other hand, Leicester can’t say the same for their recent form. The Brentford loss means Leicester have made unwanted history by becoming the first Premier League side to lose six home games in a row without scoring.
By the time the Foxes play at the London Stadium, they could be eight points off of safety if Wolves beat Fulham.
Defeat against the Hammers may not mathematically means it’s over, but relegation will be a near dead cert with less than a third of the season remaining.
