The names of Scott Wright and Lyndon Dykes were added to Birmingham City’s list of injuries during the weekend’s 0-0 draw with Reading.
After their 20-goal top scorer suffered a leg injury against Bradford City last week, the Blues traveled to the Select Car Leasing Stadium without their lucky player, Jay Stansfield.
The Blues will be hoping for a few injury boosts during this double gameweek. Second-place Wycombe Wanderers will be in town for a top-of-the-table match on Saturday, while Leyton Orient will visit St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Tuesday night.
Jay Stansfield
Injury: Leg
Chris Davies later disclosed that Stansfield’s pain was actually in the femur, the bone above the knee, rather than his knee, which was initially believed to have been hurt during an awkward landing during the Vertu Trophy semi-final against Bradford.
On Tuesday evening, Stansfield conducted examinations at the hospital, which revealed no damage to his bones or ligaments. “It’s a severe blow to the leg,” Davies remarked. “It’s a serious issue inside the leg, not a ligament or structural issue per se. That’s why it’s difficult.
Marc Leonard
Injury: Knee
Leonard came out worse in a 50/50 challenge with Newcastle midfielder Lewis Miley. There was a large laceration underneath Leonard’s knee and he was in considerable pain as he was stretchered off just after the hour in the FA cup fourth round tie on February 8.
The Scot was patched up in hospital and must now wait for the wound to heal before he can resume training.
Davies commented: “Marc is progressing well. He’s obviously had a deep cut to the knee and is going to get back training in the next week or so.”
Injury: Calf
Dykes pulled up on the run during Blues’ 0-0 draw with Reading and hobbled off the field. The Scotland international appeared to be in a lot of discomfort and will likely miss the game with Orient.
“Lyndon’s looks like a calf,” said Davies. “Where exactly it is we’re not sure but he’s felt something. It’s disappointing.”
Injury: Knee
Wright’s studs got caught in the turf at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and he went down holding his knee with no one around him. Wright was given treatment on the field but he didn’t require a stretcher.
“I haven’t actually seen it but the mechanism apparently doesn’t look nice,” said Davis “They are testing his ligaments and stuff but we’ll just have to wait for the scan because you’re never quite sure.”
Injury: Knee
Buchanan suffered a serious knee injury during the draw with Blackpool and will miss the remainder of the season. Davies said: “Lee’s injury is quite severe as everyone would have guessed. He will be out for a considerable amount of time with a bad knee injury, as you probably saw from the pictures, and he won’t be with us for this season absolutely.”
The left-back is back on his feet at Blues’ training ground, albeit with a knee brace in place, and in the early stages of his rehab.
