Premier League deliver instant reaction as Morgan Gibbs-White is sent off in Nottingham Forest draw

Nottingham Forest came from behind to draw with Brighton this afternoon at the AMEX Stadium.

Following last weekend’s spectacular 1-0 triumph against Liverpool, the Reds made sure it wasn’t all about the Lord Mayor’s Show.

Forest took the lead with a penalty from Chris Wood, but Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck scored twice in three minutes before half-time to turn the game around.

At half-time, Forest made three substitutions, including Neco Williams, who struggled to have an impact on the game.

But all was not lost when, following a stunning break, Jota Silva teed up Ramon Sosa to score his first goal in English football, giving Forest a share of the spoils.

Morgan Gibbs-White was sent off for Nottingham Forest.

Unfortunately, the 2-2 tie once again raised concerns about the quality of Premier League match referees.

Gibbs-White was given a second yellow card late in the game, but it was not a pleasant occurrence for the umpires.

After the 24-year-old seemed to tackle Joao Pedro, referee Rob Jones indicated that the Forest star had played the ball.

However, the incident occurred in front of the fourth official, Anthony Taylor, and Jones quickly changed his mind and sent Gibbs-White on his way.

Forest finished the game with less players than Brighton, but the team held tight.

Premier League reacts quickly to Gibbs-White’s red card.

This season, major match situations are conveyed on X quickly thereafter so that spectators understand why a choice was made.

Following the Gibbs-White incident, the Premier League stated: “The referee issued a second yellow card to Gibbs-White for a reckless challenge on Pedro.”

“Fabian Hurzeler and Nuno Espirito Santo were both sent off for their unacceptable technical area behaviour following the incident.”

Finally, the fans don’t need to clean up after the incident that will see Forest face Fulham without Gibbs-White next weekend.

The key cause of contention is why Jones did not award a free kick after signaling that the player had made contact with the ball.

Was Anthony Taylor so eager to get involved after not being assigned a game to referee this weekend that he just chose to leave his imprint on this one?

The immediate reaction says we’ll never know, but this puts Rob Jones back in the limelight after he erroneously sent off Willy Boly last season.
