Aston Villa star set to miss Champions League clash vs Bayern Munich after injury blow against Wolves

On Saturday, Aston Villa scored another spectacular comeback to defeat Wolves 3-1, but Unai Emery suffered an injury.

Aston Villa won their fourth Premier League game in a row, but unlike their last game against Everton, they did not have an easy victory.

Villa fell down in the 25th minute against Matheus Cunha, but in the second half, the hosts picked up their game, scoring three goals late on.

Morgan Rogers played a key role in the fightback, providing assists for Ollie Watkins, Jon Duran, and Ezri Konsa, who also scored.

Emery’s outstanding changes, including the forced switch of Leon Bailey for John McGinn at halftime, contributed to the win.

  • Following the Wolves’ victory, Unai Emery provides an update on John McGinn’s injury.

The two blemishes from the victory over Wolves were Diego Carlos’ performance, which handed Cunha a goal, and McGinn’s injury.

Villa’s captain was replaced at halftime due to a hamstring injury, and Emery has confirmed that the 29-year-old will be out for many weeks.

“It’s his hamstring. When we arrived, he suffered a hamstring injury against Tottenham in January, and I believe his current ailment is less severe. Emery confirmed to Birmingham Live that he will be unavailable for a few weeks.

The ‘excellent’ McGinn may miss the Carabao Cup trip to Wycombe, as well as Premier League matches against Manchester United and Ipswich Town, due to a few weeks of injury.

The Scotsman may not be available for the Champions League home game against Bayern Munich on October 2nd.

John McGinn’s absence will be a significant setback for Aston Villa.

Emery offered McGinn an ultimatum when he initially came at Villa Park, leading McGinn to fear about his future at the club.

Fast forward nearly two years, and the Scotsman is one of the first names on the squad roster, thanks to his tireless pressing and ability to propel his team ahead.

As captain, McGinn sets an example by initiating the Villa press from wide and orchestrating play centrally.

Following this injury update, the Birmingham team will miss his defensive and attacking contributions, especially in the Champions League match against Bayern.

Hopefully, McGinn recovers quickly and is available for the crucial encounter at home against the Bundesliga giants.
